Design and Implementation of Gilbert Cell Multiplier

The Gilbert Cell multiplier is an analog multiplier and is more commonly called as a mixer. It is used for frequency conversion and is very important in RF communication system. One of the fundamental reasons for frequency conversion is to allow amplification of the received signal at a frequency other than the RF or audio frequency. The uniqueness of this work is that the multiplier circuit is simulated with 10 pads. The working of ESD protection circuit on the IO pads has been studied. From the simulation results it has been found that for an input impedance of 500 1, when RF signals are used the circuit has a 2dB loss.
